Another year, another SEMA. This year was an equipment self challenge. SEMA is always a tough crowded show so lugging around a lot of equipment is a huge hassle. The goal was to keep things light and minimal to the extreme. Since the new iPhone 11 Pro launch was hugely revolving around the camera updates, I had my hands on from day 1 to test this camera and I have been blown away with the performance. There are hiccups as there are multiple software updates but being able to shoot 4k30 with HDR and 4K60 on a mobile device is astonishing. Almost every clip was able to perform well except for low light conditions as there was much color noise produced and is very visible in this video but I believe this is a hardware limitation strictly on the ultra wide lens only. Aside from the camera performance, I believe this was a great opportunity to utilize the portability of the phone with the addition of a DJI Osmo Mobile 3. This is the newest of the mobile devices that is able to fold down into a much smaller form factor to place in a small back and even your pocket. This was awesome to have the ease of use and least amount of weight to carry with me to film an entire day without getting fatigued carrying around large gimbal setups and sliders everywhere. This year’s SEMA was a bit different as mobility was not an issue as my group and I were able to traverse slightly easier through the crowds without being weighted down equipment but we were also able to enjoy the show a little more as well making stops along the way. With that said, here is SEMA 2019.
